Wigan scrum-half Matty Smith thought he had won it for the home side when he calmly slotted a drop goal to break the deadlock nine minutes from the end, but the wily Briers had the final say to ensure a draw from a match neither side deserved to lose.

Joel Monaghan crossed over for a brace of tries and Richie Myler added one - after the break - for the Wolves as Brett Hodgson added the extras before Briers struck late on.

Josh Charnley, Ben Flower and Liam Farrell scored a try apiece for the home side as Pat Richards converted twice and Smith added his drop goal within the last 10 minutes.
