Rugby - New Zealand only perfect side on day one of London Sevens

New Zealand justified their status as newly-crowned IRB Sevens champions as they were the only side to win all three of their matches on the opening day of the London Sevens at Twickenham.

The All Blacks opened up with a 24-7 win over Canada, added a 31-17 win over Kenya and finally pummelled Wales 45-5 as they earned top spot in Pool B.

England looked set to dominate Pool C in similar style as they enjoyed convincing opening victories over Fiji (27-0) and Samoa (34-7).

But they slipped up in their final match, quickly going 14-0 down against Argentina and going on to lose 26-17, though they still share top spot in the pool with Fiji and Argentina.

There is nothing between Australia, South Africa and USA in Pool A as all three teams won two and lost one match, with France the whipping boys who lost all three matches.
