Rustam Khabilov vs. Danny Castillo is Latest UFC 182 Addition

A fight between lightweights looking to rebound has been added to UFC 182 on Jan. 3, as UFC officials on Wednesday announced that Rustam Khabilov and Danny Castillo would meet at the Las Vegas-based event.

Khabilov (17-2) made a quick run up the 155-pound division, winning his first three UFC bouts before Benson Henderson submitted him in the UFC Fight Night 42 main event in Albuquerque over the summer.

Castillo (17-7) is one of the longest tenured fighters under contract with Zuffa, as he’s been fighting for either the WEC or UFC since mid-2008. He’s constantly ramped up towards a title shot, but then had his dream dashed. That happened most recently with a split-decision loss to Tony Ferguson at UFC 177 in August.

Both fighters will be looking to get back on track when they meet at UFC 182.

The fight was the latest addition to the card, which was the recipient of a flurry of activity on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, UFC president Dana White revealed that the original UFC 182 co-main event between women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Cat Zingano had been moved to the UFC 184 fight card on Feb. 28 in Los Angeles. UFC 184 features a main event with Chris Weidman putting his middleweight title on the line against Vitor Belfort.

White then announced that a lightweight bout between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Myles Jury would take over the main support slot for the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier UFC 182 headliner.
