League One new boys Crawley have signed defender Mat Sadler from Walsall.

The 27-year-old has become Town boss Sean O'Driscoll's second signing for the club following the arrival of goalkeeper Paul Jones a fortnight ago.

Saddlers manager Dean Smith was hoping to keep Sadler, but he told the club's official website: "In the end, Crawley's offer was simply too good for him to turn down."

Smith added: "I really enjoyed working with him over the past year or so and wish him well, with two notable exceptions, next season.

"He will be sorely missed but we move on and look towards our other targets."

Meanwhile, Nicky Adams has joined Crawley from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder was an ever-present for Dale last season, although the club were relegated at the end of the campaign.

After signing a two-year deal, Adams told Reds Player: "I'm really pleased. I spoke to the gaffer (Sean O'Driscoll) and a few of the players. I've had a few offers from other clubs but this one seemed right.

"It's not just that, but the club has had great success and I know a couple of the players. They all told me it's a really good club on the way up."
