Sara McMann Welcomes German Fighter Sheila Gaff to America at UFC 159

Sara McMann Out, Sarah Kaufman Awaits New UFC Fight Night 27 Opponent

The UFC women’s 135-pound division is starting to fall into place with several of the fighters under contract lining up bouts. The latest is former U.S. Olympian Sara McMann, who will face newly signed German fighter Sheila Gaff.

MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed the fight – first reported by GroundandPound.de – has been verbally agreed to.

McMann and Gaff are expected as part of the UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen undercard on April 27 in Newark, N.J.

McMann won a silver medal in women’s freestyle wresting at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. She has carried her successes from the wrestling world into her mixed martial arts career.

Like UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey – also an Olympic medalist – McMann has a spotless record in MMA. McMann is currently 6-0 having defeated the likes of Tonya Evinger, Hitomi Akano, and most recently, Shayna Baszler. She is also 2-0 in amateur bouts.

Gaff (10-4-1) has a solid mix of submission skills and knockout power. She has been fighting for several more years than McMann, but McMann was already competing at a high level in wrestling before Gaff started fighting. UFC 159 will mark the first time that Gaff will make the trip to the United States to fight mixed martial arts.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones headlines the UFC 159 fight card, putting his belt on the line against fellow Ultimate Fighter 17 coach Chael Sonnen.
