Saunders confirms Diouf departure

El-Hadji Diouf

Doncaster manager Dean Saunders concedes El-Hadji Diouf has almost certainly played his last game for the club.

Diouf penned an 18-month deal at the Keepmoat Stadium in January, but clauses in his deal mean the 31-year-old Senegal international is no longer bound to Rovers following their relegation from the npower Championship.

Saunders stated Diouf - strongly linked with a move to Yorkshire neighbours Leeds last week - was "difficult" to manage but praised his contribution to the club and his forward partnership with Billy Sharp before the latter completed a mid-season move to Southampton.

"He scored six goals, got 12 assists and I think probably six of those were on Billy's head in the six-yard box. Obviously Billy's got a knack of finding space in the box.

"He's a class player, not easy to manage off the pitch, but I only had him for five months and the clauses in his contract are for the Championship, so I think he'll probably be going to another club, whether it's Leeds or somewhere else."
