Dean Saunders believes Frederic Piquionne can provide the cutting edge to fire his Doncaster side to npower Championship survival.

Piquionne joined Rovers on loan from West Ham in time for Tuesday night's crucial clash at Nottingham Forest and marked his debut in spectacular fashion, opening the scoring with a scorching 30-yard drive to set up a 2-1 victory.

The 33-year-old French striker is ineligible to face his parent club at Upton Park this weekend, but Saunders said: "We got two goals away from home again, we got two at Leeds. We're creating that many chances in recent weeks but we've not been taking the fair share of them."

He added: "Obviously the higher up you go the strikers take a percentage of chances that's more than the strikers in the lower leagues.

"If you sign a class striker, then he's going to win you games.

"It was a terrific strike. We watched their back four and they do back off quite a bit, so I told all of them to run at their back four if they got the chance and they backed off him. He had enough room to get it out of his feet then he's just hit the back of the ball."
