Internazionale went third in Serie A after a straightforward 2-0 dismantling of Pescara at the Giuseppe Meazza.

A crisp finish from Rodrigo Palacio gave the Nerazzurri the lead in the first half and he set up Fredy Guarin in the second period to tap home the second.

Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni handed 18-year-old midfielder Marco Benassi his debut and he looked assured in midfield alongside captain Javier Zanetti.

The first chance fell to injury-depleted Inter on six minutes as a flying Palacio nodded a floated ball on into his own path then looked to finish past Mattia Perin but dragged wide of the target.

In the 17th minute Antonio Cassano earned space inside the box on the left and forced a parry out of young goalkeeping star Perin with a curling effort as he angled towards goal.

On the half hour Inter took the lead. Cristian Chivu pinged a pass to Cassano who left it for Palacio on the edge of the box and the Argentine turned sharply and finished into the bottom corner.

A Cassano backheel almost played in Alvaro Pereira, who was a constant threat on the left flank, but Pescara captain Antonio Balzano was there to clear up.

On the stroke of half-time the home side should have been two up when Cassano, who pulled the strings in attack throughout, played in Jonathan on the right but his cross was too high for Palacio.

Vladimir Weiss was the most dangerous player for the visitors, but had no one to aim for in the middle when attacking from the right with striker Mervan Celik ineffectual for Cristiano Bergodi's side.

Seven minutes into the second half Inter winger Jonathan was handed room to shoot from inside the box by Guarin but could only rifle his effort a yard wide of the post.

But no matter - two minutes later they had their second when the former Cruzeiro star played the ball down the flank for Palacio, who cut inside to take a defender out of the equation before setting up Guarin for what amounted to a tap-in.

Jonathas went down twice looking for a penalty after fair challenges from Cristian Chivu as Pescara's impotence in attack belied their excellent league form.

There were half-chances for the home side to add another, with Guarin almost setting Palacio clear with a flick and substitute Tommaso Rocchi leaving the ball for Pereira to send a bullet shot at goal from 16 yards which Perin pushed away.

Yet Inter will be satisfied with the victory against a Pescara side who have won three of their last four games, including inflicting a shock first home defeat of the season on Fiorentina last weekend.
