Lazio missed out on the chance to go joint-top of Serie A as they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Palermo at Stadio Renzo Barbera.

With league-leaders Juventus not playing Udinese until later this evening, a victory for the Biancocelesti would have seen them draw level on points with the Italian champions.

Despite taking the lead through an excellent first-half Sergio Floccari looping header, Palermo soon came back in the second half. Two goals in two minutes saw Arevalo equalise before Paulo Dybala completed the turnaround.

There was still time, however, for Hernanes to draw his side level from the penalty spot. Despite pushing for a winner, neither side were able to grab a third.

A hugely important point for the Rosanero sees them bring a halt to their run of three successive defeats and move to just three points from safety.

The away side showed their intent from the off and nearly scored in the opening seconds with Hernanes bringing out a decent save from Samir Ujkani from the edge of the box.

They did not have to wait too much longer before breaking the deadlock with Cristian Ledesma soon picking out Floccari with a fine ball before the striker sent his header over the stranded Ujkani.

Palermo soon pulled themselves back into the game and nearly found an equaliser through the dangerous Fabrizio Miccoli who turned his marker inside the box before bringing out a superb save from Federico Marchetti.

The home side continued to pour forward, sending plenty of dangerous balls into the box only for the Lazio defence, and Michael Ciani in particular, managing to stand strong.

And Lazio somehow managed to hold on when Santiago Garcia got on the end of a Miccoli corner only to see his effort somehow cleared off the line before the away side managed to eventually scramble the ball clear.

Despite Palermo’s relentless pressure, Lazio still looked dangerous when in the final third and came close through a Floccari header.

The home side started the second half how they finished the first and continued to fire deliveries into the Lazio box.

However, it was still the Biancocelesti on the break who looked the most clinical. They soon had the ball in the back of the net again through a fine strike from Floccari, only for the goal to be ruled out as the striker had been offside.

Palermo were eventually rewarded for their constant pressure, grabbING an equaliser on the 70th minute as Arevalo arrived at the far post to tap home Andrea Dossena’s cross.

And just a minute later the Rosanero amazingly found themselves in the lead as Dybala slotted home past Marchetti perfectly, following the first-time ball from Miccoli.

With the game entering its final stages it looked as though the relegation strugglers might be able to hold on until Floccari won a penalty after being brought down by a reckless Ezequiel Munoz challenge. Hernanes stepped up to tuck the penalty away into the bottom corner

With both sides pushing for the winner, Dybala picked out the unmarked Miccoli in the box for Palermo, yet the striker could only send his volley over the bar with what proved to be the last kick of the game.
