Doria endured a problematic return to the Italian top flight last season where they ran the risk of relegation to Serie B.
“We have to improve as a side,” the defender noted to Sky Sport Italia. “We are training everyday and always giving 100 per cent.
“We need to ensure Serie A safety sooner than we managed last season and so we hope to start the campaign well.”
Samp eventually finished the season in 14th place, 10 points above the drop zone, as they defied some of the sports betting odds which believed they would continue to struggle in Serie A.
De Silvestri will still be a part of the Doria set-up after he spent last season on loan with the port club from Fiorentina.
“I settled in well here, this is a healthy environment to play your football in,” he added. “The directors here are very serious and there is everything we need here to do well.
“All of that was the reason which is why I wanted to stay in Blucerchiato. I hope I can contribute to the team achieving its objectives.
“You always need a bit of a break, but we remained in decent shape over the summer. Now there is a great desire to start again.
“Our pre-season schedule? We wake up at 7.45 and training starts at 9.30. The morning session lasts about two hours.
“We break for lunch, rest a bit and then start training again at 17.30. We have to be in bed by 23.00.”
One of the few bright points of Samp’s season last time out was their 3-1 win over city rivals Genoa. “It’s always nice to win the derby,” the former Lazio player added.
