It looked as if Bedford would win at a canter as he stormed 4-0 in front after three hours - with a top break of 117, but Pinches staged an unlikely fight-back to force a decider at 4-4.

The comeback, however, was of little avail as Bedford clinched frame nine to seal victory.

The match came to an end at 3 am after seven hours and 29 minutes of snooker - with an average frame time of 50 minutes.

Bedford will now face emerging star Elliot Slessor in round three.

Elsewhere, in a bizarre quirk of fate Saqib Nasir, who overturned a four-frame deficit against Allan Taylor in round one of qualifying, was beaten 5-4 by Mike Dunn having himself taken a four-frame advantage.
