Stephen Thompson Out of UFC Fight Night 60 Main Event, Brandon Thatch Awaits a Replacement

UFC matchmakers are scrambling, trying to find a replacement for the UFC Fight Night 60 main event. Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson suffered a fractured rib in training that has forced him out the Feb. 14 event against Brandon Thatch.

UFC officials announced the development on Friday following the UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Thompson (10-1) is on a four-fight winning streak and on the cusp of cracking the 170-pound rankings. His lone career loss is to No. 6 ranked Matt Brown. The 31-year-old kickboxing standout defeated Patrick Cote in his last outing at UFC 178 in September.

Thatch (11-1) is waiting to find out whom he’ll face in Broomfield, Colo. in two weeks. The Colorado native is riding a ten-fight winning streak and hasn’t lost since 2008. He’s fought twice inside the Octagon, finishing Justin Edwards and Paulo Thiago in the opening round.

An announcement regarding Thompson’s replacement is expected in the coming days.
