Stephen Thompson vs. Amir Sadollah Announced for UFC 160 Memorial Weekend Fight Card

Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson

The heavyweights have gotten all the attention for the recently announced UFC 160 event scheduled for May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Junior dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem definitely weigh heavily at the top end of the fight card, but a welterweight battle is brewing between Stephen Thompson and Amir Sadollah, as well.

Thompson (6-1) blasted his way into the UFC with a Knockout of the Night head kick that put the lights out for Dan Stittgen at UFC 143 in early 2011. He lost his return bout via unanimous decision to Matt Brown a couple months later at UFC 145.

Thompson was expected to make his attempt at rebounding from the first loss of his career in a scheduled bout against Besam Yousef at UFC 154, but a knee injury forced him out of that fight.

He will instead step into the Octagon with Sadollah on May 25 to try and right his ship.

The winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 7, Amir Sadollah has fought every bout of his professional career under the UFC banner.

He has found scattered success in the Octagon, amounting to a 6-4 record, although he is 1-2 in his last three fights.

Sadollah enters the bout with Thompson on the heels of a decision loss to Dan Hardy.

Bouncing back and forth between wins and losses, never able to establish much momentum, the 32-year-old Sadollah can hear the clock ticking in the background if he’s ever going to establish himself as a title contender.
