Assen WSBK: Hospital for Haslam after free practice crash

The rider who hails from Smalley, was churning out some consistent lap times, before he crashed on turn seven out on the wet tracks.

He was taken to hospital where scans confirmed a double leg-break. Haslam will undergo surgery once the swelling reduces and is expected to miss a significant chunk of the season.

His official Twitter account said he would not undergo surgery on Saturday but probably over the coming days.

At one point Haslam was way up the time sheets competing with fellow Brit, Kawasaki Racing’s Tom Sykes at the TT circuit. But before he crashed he was fifth fastest and clocked a time of 2’01.112.

After Haslam’s crash the session was red flagged, with less than four minutes remaining, and the rider was sent to the medical centre for treatment.
