Thiago Tavares vs. Nik Lentz Rematch Scratched from UFC Fight Night 60
The rematch between Thiago Tavares and Nik Lentz has been scratched.
Tavares and Lentz were supposed to have fought in a featherweight bout at next week’s UFC Fight Night 60 in Broomfield, Colo. The two initially fought to a majority draw in a lightweight fight in January of 2010.
Tavares, however, has re-injured his left knee, according to a recent report by MMAFighting.com.
UFC officials on Tuesday said Lentz would remain on the Colorado fight card, facing Octagon newcomer Levan Makashvili.
Lentz (25-6-2, 1 NC) has won four out of his last five bouts. He’s only lost to No. 2 ranked featherweight Chad Mendes during that stretch. Lentz hasn’t fought since last May, when he won a unanimous decision over Manny Gamburyan.
Makashvili (6-1) has fought the majority of his professional career in the Northeastern United States, but facing Lentz will be a considerable step up in competition despite his regional success.

UFC Fight Night 60 has taken some major hits for a fight card that wasn’t exactly laden with star power to begin with. The original main event was Tarec Saffiedine vs. Matt Brown. When that fight fell apart, Denver favorite Brandon Thatch, who was scheduled to fight Stephen Thompson, had his fight promoted to headliner status.
After Thompson withdrew, the UFC was lucky enough to have Benson Henderson ready to move up to welterweight and accept the fight with Thatch, putting some punch back in the fight card.
