Tom DeBlass Pulls Out of King Mo Lawal Fight with Ghastly Forehead Gash

One of the main bouts for Bellator 131, the promotion's big season-ending event, has been derailed, as Tom DeBlass suffered a deep cut to his forehead.

DeBlass was slate to face King Mo Lawal on Nov. 15 at the Valley View Center in San Diego, but a clash of heads in training has forced him to withdraw from the fight. Before posting about the injury and subsequent withdrawal on Twitter, DeBlass says that he informed Lawal and that he was very respectful about the situation.

For now, however, it sounds as if DeBlass is not only removing himself from the Lawal fight, but also from MMA competition in general.

“@kingmofh sometimes life throws unexpected things our way. Accidental headbutt did just that two weeks before my fight with @kingMofh this cut is deep and bad. This cut is taking me out of the fight with Mo,” DeBlass wrote on Twitter on Saturday. “As soon as it's touched in the fight it will bust open. I know so many of you wanted to see this so I apologize, and I felt so great ,as we know injuries happen in MMA and we fighters take the worst of it.

“Regarding Mo, we already spoke and he's one of the most respectful guys I've talked too. We already spoke of training together when I'm healed. As far as MMA is concerned I'll never say never, but I can say right now I'm focusing on competing Jiu-Jitsu and improving my Academy. I have no plans to fight right now. Thank you to my manager Danny Liguori for everything and Bellator for being so awesome, you may see me back in there one day. But for now let's win some more Jiu-Jitsu title”

Bellator has yet to make any announcements in regard to the change to the fight card and what will happen with Lawal. A fight between UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar headlines the Bellator 131 fight card, with a co-main event between Will Brooks and Michael Chandler for the lightweight championship.
