UFC 178 Lands Donald Cerrone vs. Bobby Green Co-Main Event

Upcoming fight cards recently underwent some major reshuffling when light heavyweight champion Jon Jones had to withdraw from his UFC 178 main event bout with Daniel Cormier.

As a result, that bout was rescheduled for UFC 182 on Jan. 3, 2015, and the UFC 177 championship co-main event between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso was transferred to take the place of Jones vs. Cormier on Sept. 27.

Trying to shore up the UFC 178 fight card a bit more, UFC officials on Thursday pulled Bobby Green from his scheduled bout with Jorge Masvidal on the card and instead matched him up with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Green and Cerrone will now meet in the UFC 178 co-main event in support of Johnson vs. Cariaso.

Cerrone is currently on a four-fight winning streak, while Green has won eight straight, including all four of his UFC bouts. The winner will put himself near the top of the list when lightweight title shot talks take place.

Not wanting to leave Masvidal twisting in the wind, UFC matchmakers kept him on the card by pairing him up with James Krause.
