UFC 186 Fighter Bonuses: Demetrious Johnson Banks an Extra $50,000 in Sixth Title Defense

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the performance-based bonuses stemming from UFC 186: Johnson vs. Horiguchi following Saturday’s pay-per-view event at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Demetrious Johnson, Thomas Almeida, Chad Laprise and Bryan Barberena took home the extra $50,000 bonus money.

Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson earned a Performance of the Night award in his sixth title defense. Johnson dominated challenger Kyoji Horiguchi with relentless pressure. With literally one second remaining in the title fight, Johnson forced Horiguchi to tap out to an armbar after shutting the Japanese contender out on the judges' scorecards through the first four rounds.

Fight of the Night went to Chad Laprise and Bryan Barberena for their closely contested lightweight bout on the preliminary card. The Ultimate Fighter Nations winner edged out Barberena on the scorecards, but the fight was closer than the unanimous decision may have indicated.

Thomas Almeida bagged a Performance of the Night bonus for his first-round finish of Yves Jabouin in a bantamweight contest that kicked off the main card. Almeida used precision striking to hurt Jabouin. Instead of rushing in and letting technique fly out the window in pursuit of the finish, Almeida stayed composed and picked his shots. He finished Jabouin with a series of strikes along the fence late in the opening round.

UFC 186: Johnson vs. Horiguchi took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal. It was the seventh UFC event hosted in Canada's second-largest city.
