UFC Fight Night 48 Macao Results: Tyron Woodley Stuns the Stun Gun with First-Round TKO

Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley Headline UFC 201 on July 30

Tyron Woodley headed into Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 48 in Macao trying to erase the bitter memory of having his streak towards a title shot blocked by a loss to Rory MacDonald. His opponent, Dong Hyun Kim, entered the fight trying to put a stamp on his current run in the division, and cement his status as a welterweight contender.

Both men have become known for their one-punch knockout power, but it was Woodley’s night.

Kim immediately stormed across the Octagon and started throwing, but was caught in a clinch by Woodley, who landed several hard knees to the midsection.

After separating, Kim continued his aggressive attack, moving in with a spinning backfist. Woodley caught Kim mid-spin with a hard right hand and then shoved him to the mat. He followed Kim down and landed several more punches that ended the fight after 61 ticks of the clock.

Having lost a disappointing unanimous decision to MacDonald in June, it was a much-needed rebound for Woodley.

“I needed to redeem myself quickly,” he said after the fight. “I didn’t want to cry over spilt milk.”
