UFC Fight Night 52 Results: Myles Jury Stops Takanori Gomi with First-Round TKO

When fighters face someone they’ve looked up to in their lives, it’s not uncommon to see them give their hero too much respect. Myles Jury vowed to not make that mistake when he faced former PRIDE champion Takanori Gomi at UFC Fight Night 52 in Japan on Saturday.

Jury came out light on his feet, using lateral movement as Gomi took the center of the Octagon. Jury moved in and out, utilizing his jab. Gomi bobbed and weaved but he was unable to avoid a straight right hand that put him on his back in the early going on the first round. Gomi was unable to recover and Jury finished with a series of strikes on the ground as Gomi covered up in the turtle position.

“I’ve been a fan of Gomi’s since I was like sixteen. Getting the opportunity to fight him especially here in Japan at Saitama Arena, that’s off the hook,” said and elated Jury following the 93-second finish. “It’s a huge moment in my career.”

With the win, Jury extended his unbeaten streak to 15, including six consecutive wins in the UFC. He didn’t call for a specific opponent next, but will likely get a top ten-ranked opponent in his next outing.

“I want to get that belt one day,” he said about his aspirations. “It’s up to my management (who I face next). They’ll talk to the UFC and we’ll figure it out.”
