UFC Fight Night 53 Results: Max Holloway Stops Akira Corassani in the First Round

Featherweight up and comer Max Holloway extended his winning streak to four in-a-row on Saturday by finishing Akira Corassani in the first round of the UFC Fight Night 53 co-main event in Stockholm, Sweden.

Corassani looked composed as he circled on the outside, using his footwork to create openings in the early going. Holloway moved forward and pressured Corassni and it paid off.

The 22-year-old dropped Corassani with a right hand. Corassani tied Holloway up and tried to recover but another right hand sent him back to the canvas. The Hawaiian finished with a flurry of punches on the ground forcing the referee to intervene.

“I’m in the gym day and day out. I’m not only working on my striking. I’m working on my ground and I’m working on my wrestling. I didn’t get to show it tonight,” said Holloway after the win.

“These little gloves, you get hit, the ones you don’t see hurt him. I don’t think he saw that overhand. I was getting ready for a three-round war. I just got a lucky punch and I get to go home now,” said Holloway about the finish.

With four consecutive wins inside the octagon, Holloway wants to face a ranked opponent in his next outing.

“I want a top fifteen or top ten guy,” he said. “My goal is to be ranked before the end of the year or the beginning of next year. Whatever the UFC wants to do. I’m a company man baby. Keep giving them and I’m going to keep knocking them down.”
