UFC Fight Night 54 Results: Rory MacDonald Blasts Tarec Saffiedine for Third-Round TKO

Rory MacDonald scored a stoppage in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, earning a technical knockout over Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night 54 on Saturday evening.

MacDonald blasted Saffiedine with a perfectly placed uppercut to finish the bout at 1:28 of the third round, and following the contest he pleaded for the next opportunity at the UFC welterweight title.

“I think it goes without saying I'm next for that title,” MacDonald said. “I want that title shot. I want the winner of that next fight. Please give it to me.”

After over three minutes of little action, MacDonald caught a Saffiedine kick and punched his opponent to the ground. He advanced position and landed a number of short strikes before the fight returned to the feet where Saffiedine landed several leg kicks.

MacDonald landed an effective three-punch combination in the first minute of the second round. Throughout the frame he kept the distance between him and his opponent by utilizing the jab, but Saffiedine was still able to land a number of leg kicks. MacDonald landed a right hand that wobbled his opponent in the final minute.

Saffiedine landed a strong punch in the early moments of the third round, and he continued his assault on MacDonald's lead leg. MacDonald then landed a left uppercut that dropped Saffiedine, and he pursued his fallen foe to the floor where the fight was called off after several more punches to the head.

With the win at UFC Fight Night, MacDonald improves his record to 18-2 and is a winner of two in a row. His last loss came against current No. 1 contender Robbie Lawler, who is scheduled to rematch 170-pound champ Johny Hendricks at UFC 181 in December.
