UFC on FOX 14 Produces Second Largest UFC Attendance Ever

The Swedish fans left UFC on FOX 14 at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm rather disappointed on Saturday night. And there certainly was a large contingent in the arena.

There were 30,000 people in the audience to watch Anthony Johnson upset Swedish main eventer Alexander Gustafsson, according to David Allen, Senior Vice President and General Manager for UFC in EMEA, although he did promise an updated number later in the week. That amounts to the second largest attendance in UFC history and its largest outside of North America. The gate totaled $3.1 million.

The UFC’s top draw ever was 55,724 at UFC 129 in Toronto on April 30, 2011. That event was headlined by a Georges St-Pierre title defense against Jake Shields, and produced a massive $12 million gate.

UFC on FOX 14 was supposed to be Gustafsson’s launching pad into a rematch with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, a fight that the Swede has been after ever since he nearly upset Jones in September of 2013.

It wasn’t to be, however, as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson used the unearthly power in his fists to topple Gustafsson little more than two minutes into the first round.
