Unics claim Montepaschi scalp

Unics Kazan upset Montepaschi Siena 79-73 in Italy in the shock of round six of EuroLeague basketball action.

Henry Domercant and Vladimir Veremeenko led the way as the Russian side moved level with Montepaschi at the top of Group D.

Domercant drained 24 points while Veremeenko had 21 with 10 rebounds. Lynn Greer added 12 off the bench.

Elsewhere, another Russian team CSKA became the first team to book a place in the Top 16 with a 95-82 win over struggling Zalgiris in Moscow.

Nenad Krstic inspired CSKA with 21 points for a victory that takes them to 6-0 for the season. Zalgiris are in real trouble with a 1-5 record.

Vassilis Spanoulis was the hero in Piraeus as his 18 third-quarter points helped lift Olympiacos to an 88-81 win over Gescrap BB.

Spanoulis finished with a career-high 29 points, helping to seal victory with four clutch free-throws in the final minute.

Rounding off the night's action, Efes Pilsen scored a 67-58 win over Partizan Mobtel in Turkey to improve to 3-3 - the same record as their opponents.
