US Open 2014: Andy Murray Seeded Eighth as Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are Kept Apart Until Final

Andy Murray has been seeded eighth for the US Open in New York.

World number one Novak Djokovic has been seeded first while five-time champion Roger Federer has been seeded at number two.

The draw ensured Djokovic, who defeated the Swiss to clinch his second Wimbledon crown last month, can only meet Federer if the two reach the final at Flushing Meadows.

Murray has slipped down the rankings following a disappointing summer that saw his defence of his Wimbledon title ended by Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-final.

Before that, he suffered a straight-sets thrashing at the hands of Rafael Nadal in their semi-final at Roland Garros.

Nadal's withdrawal from the final Grand Slam of the year due to a wrist injury has allowed Federer to move up from his number three ATP singles ranking.

Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka steps into his place followed by David Ferrer, Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych and Dimitrov.

The draw for the US Open will take place on Thursday ahead of the first set of first round matches on Monday.

Top seed Djokovic has reached the last four finals in New York but last won the title in 2011.
