  1. 6-3 - WINNER! Kim Clijsters is safely, and easily, through to the second round as Camerin continued to struggle with the slightly slippery grass. Next up for Clijsters will be either Karolina Sprem or Bethanie Mattek-Sands

  2. 5-3 - BREAK! Clijsters eventually gets the break at the third attempt when Camerin hits a backhand into the net. The Belgian had already missed a couple of chances as Camerin saved the first with a cracking backhand winner down the line and Clijsters squandered the second with a backhand wide down the line

  3. 4-3 - Camerin sends a forehand well long of the baseline, the frustration is beginning to return to her game once again now after a brief respite when she was pleased with herself, and Clijsters is just two games away from the second round

  4. 3-3 - Camerin has come through another tough game, holding from deuce with a forehand winner to level up once again

  5. 3-2 - Clijsters eases through another game, taking it wih a huge first serve and forehand winner combo to sneak in front and keep all the pressure on Camerin

  6. 2-2 - Camerin is starting to find her feet now and is enjoying support from a fair proportion of the crowd, who would love to see a match here, as she holds once again to level up at 2-2

  7. 2-1 - No let up from Clijsters - she makes Camerin run all over the court, testing a variety of shots in an effortless hold to love.

  8. 1-1 - There's ferocity in the Clijsters forehand, but it's also been responsible for a couple of errors, and Camerin takes a 30-0 lead. A moment of misfortune for Camerin as she slips turns into a blessing as she scraps to win the point, and for the first time today she smiles. And there's even more reason to be happy as she follows up by converting game point.

  9. 1-0 - Clijsters gliding around the court now - finding time and space for a commanding crosscourt forehand to take the score to 30-0. Two errors from Clijsters and a Camerin winner conjures deuce, but the class of the Belgian shows and she closes out the game at the second time of asking.

  10. - - The last time these two met, in the Australian Open in 2004, it was a pretty resounding 6-0 6-0 victory for Clijsters. The signs for the Italian are very ominous as we start the second set.

  12. 5-0 - Camerin is struggling to make any pressure on the return of serve. Clijsters coasts to 40-15 until Camerin finds a delightful cross court lob. It only delays the inevitable, and the Belgian needs just one more game to close out the first set.

  13. 4-0 - BREAK: Clijsters is overwhelming Camerin here in these early stages of the game, and a frustrated Camerin throws her racquet down on the pristine turf.
