  1. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-6 (7-0) – Spain take the Davis Cup as Nadal raps a forehand down the line with Del Potro rooted to the spot. What. A. Game

  2. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-6 (6-0) – Rafa with the mini break in the first point of the tie-break. He next rasps one up the line, with Delpo chasing it down, but unable to get there. So many times the net cord has gone in favour of the Argentine, but this time it falls in favour of Nadal, who still has the good grace to apologise. It’s all going Rafa’s way now as Del Potro’s forehand goes into the net. The next goes wide. He’s really collapsed here…and at the turnaround Nadal’s taken every point.

  3. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-6 – BREAK!…One more chance though, and no one has ever hit balls like that as Delpo hits another extraordinary winner down the line.

  4. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-5 – Some great retrieving from Del Potro, but it’s not enough as he eventually hits into the net. A magnificent forehand winner down the line levels it at 15-15. Rafa goes wide, he gets the umpire to check, but it was the correct call. Amiss hit forehand doesn’t even hit the net from Nadal and it’s two break back points!...Del Potro is in the air as he tries to volley an unbelievable pass, but it’s wide!...

  5. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-5 – BREAK!...What a shot! A missile of a forehand lands on the line to save one break point…but the second is a massive disappointment. It slaps into the net in what should have been a straightforward forehand.

  6. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 5-5 – If the Argentina fans receive another warning Del Potro will lose a point. Any subsequent warnings and he’ll lose a game for each one. He’s losing it the big man as yet another goes into the net. Rafa just makes you play one more shot than you want to and this last shot from Delpo is long. Rafa’s 10 feet behind the winner, but Delpo’s 36th unforced error of the match and it’s two break points…

  7. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 5-5 – The umpire has finally had enough of the noise coming from the Argentina fans and they receive a warning. Del Potro wasn’t happy with that and a loss of concentration as he hits into the net. Another poor shot and Rafa screams ‘Vamos!’…maybe. Nadal takes an overhead out of the sky and hits the line! A game to love as he cracks a backhand crosscourt winner.

  8. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 4-5 – BREAK! A shank on his reliable forehand on the opening point and the Spanish fans are delighted. Nadal over hits his forehand as Uncle Tony stands to encourage his protégée. Del Potro lands one on the line, it must have clipped the very outside edge! A wild swing from the Argentine brings it back to 30-30. Del Potro chokes as he hits a double fault at the most vital of moments. Break point…he finds a way, he always finds a way, three passes and the third beats his man.

  9. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 3-5 – BREAK! Nadal’s not really doing much wrong here as Del Potro unleashes another stream of massive ground strokes. That’s 10 points in a row for Delpo, but Nadal replies as a big serve and a winner get him on the board. A desperate lob from Del Potro lands agonisingly long. You’d expect Nadal to make that pass even though it was tough. He doesn’t and it’s break point…and he’ll serve for the fourth set as this time the defensive lob was perfect and he volleys the winner.

  10. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 3-4 – A double fault, or not..the umpire overalls and Del Potro has back his first serve. Nadal yet again with an unforced error for 15-0. Del Potro then hits a remarkable backhand winner on the stretch and batters a forehand that’s just too much for Nadal. That’s the eighth straight point for Del Potro and he does a funny little jig of a celebration. Match truly back on…

  11. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 3-3 – BREAK! This is a crazy match. With Nadal seemingly back on top, Del Potro unreels a couple of huge groundstrokes for 0-30. A lassoed forehand from Nadal goes wide and it’s three break points…and no mistake as once again an unforced error wins it to love.

  12. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 3-2 – BREAK!…Rafa went back into his shell there on the big point. Too good as Nadal makes Delpo run left and right and he’s just not quick enough. Break point again…and he does get it as the Argentine is again put on his bike and he hits long.

  13. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 2-2 – Nadal slams a forehand into the corner, which Del Potro only just fails to loop back in. What. A. Volley from Del Potro, on the stretch he flicks it back across the net at a ridiculous angle. The big one-two off the first serve, then Nadal hits such an easy forehand into the net! Delpo hits narrowly long when going for the aggressive winner, then wide as Nadal gets pumped up again. Another unforced error and break point…only just fails with the pass…

  14. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 2-2 – BREAK! There’s signs of life from Del Potro as he outguns the Spaniard for the first point, but the second Nadal dinks a clever drop shot to take it. The second quickly follows via a smash next to the net. Delpo replies with his first winner of the fourth set, then Nadal hits into the net for break point! Signs of nerves there…and another bad miss hit and the match is back on!

  15. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 2-1 – Both sets of fans are just singing their hearts out now as the players just stand around waiting. It’s a pretty special atmosphere here. Nadal’s suddenly let his level drop as Del Potro runs into a 40-0 lead. Another unforced error and Del Potro holds.

  16. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 2-0 – Del Potro swings long, in the next point he lobs Nadal, but the Spaniard still takes it as he scampers back to retrieve it and forces the error. A last wayward return of serve and it looks like he has nothing left to give.

  17. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 1-0 – BREAK! What is Del Potro playing at? You don’t play passively against Nadal, especially when you are the biggest hitter of a tennis ball in the world. He gives it a go there, but it’s wide. Even so, he has to try and get back into his groove, he has 0% chance playing defensively. Another backhand goes into the net. A terrible drive volley goes long and that’s the break.

  18. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 6-1 – SET! Del Potro is being destroyed now. Nadal slams a smash down, the ball threatening to bounce back over the net itself all the same. A scintillating missile of a forehand goes into the same corner Del Potro is standing in, but it’s that fast he still can’t get to it. And Nadal with three set points only needs the one.

  19. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 5-1 – BREAK! Del Potro’s thigh is massively strapped up now. Another scything backhand pass leaves Delpo with no chance. It’s break point when the Argetine slices into the net as Nadal clips the line. It’s saved, but there’s another when Delpo struggles to return an angled forehand. The break comes when Nadal hits a quite unbelievable passing shot up the line. It started a good foot or two outside the line, but had so much swerve on it, it dipped back in.

  20. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 4-1 – Rafa’s finding width and not letting Delpo get inside the baseline to hit winners. A crosscourt backhand winner at a ridiculous angle. The Argentine replies with a massive hit – a rarity recently, but it doesn’t matter as Rafa holds to 15.

  21. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 3-1 – There is just no stopping him now. Another winner arcs up the line for 0-30. You’re never out of it completely though when you can hit winners from nothing like that as Delpo whizzes a flat ball up the line. And another, belted out wide as he ran around to his forehand for 30-30. A couple of unforced errors off the Nadal forehand and that’s the game.

  22. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 3-0 – Nalbandian’s looking on concerned as it looks like his chance of lifting that famous trophy is disappearing. Nadal lassoes a forehand with Delpo guessing the wrong way and the Argentina fans are properly silent now.

  23. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 2-0 – BREAK! Again Del Potro forced into a defensive lob, Nadal lets it drop then smashes it away. A nice volley from Del Potro, but his body language looks poor. To be fair, it always looks poor. For the first time in a while Delpo hits one of those special winners down the line. Yet another lucky ball hits the net and dribbles over. A big miscue and Rafa draws back to deuce. An impeccable forehand into the corner from Nadal for break point and an identical point to break!

  24. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 1-0 – Del Potro’s radar has really gone awry as he’s no longer hitting winners. He’s now reeling off error and Nadal starts with a hold to love as he slices an ace out wide.

  25. - - Nadal 1-6 6-4 – BREAK! The net cord goes in Del Potro’s favour as Nadal’s shot drops wide. The drive forehand from the Argentine doesn’t have enough on it and Nadal gets down low to pass crosscourt. Set point for Nadal as Del Potro’s crosscourt forehand goeswide. The Spanish fans rise with a roar…the Argentine does well to stretch and get back a drive, but Nadal makes no mistake as he smashes the ball up the line. Nadal jumps in celebration like he’s won the match!

  26. - - Nadal 1-6 5-4 – Del Potro wrong footed and can’t get the ball over the net. A good first serve from the Spaniard, a long forehand from Del Potro and a beautiful scytheof a backhand gives Nadal the game to love.

  27. - - Nadal 1-6 4-4 – Unplayable at times from Del Potro who is using a terrific combination of shots. Not a great moment there though as he hits tamely into the net. Crucial moment at 30-30…and the shot is overdone by some distance by the Argentine. Can you believe it, the umpire calls the shot out and it was almightily close. To deuce…Nadal returns long and nothing he can do as Del Potro drives the ball to the line.

  28. - - Nadal 1-6 4-3 – A long exchange, won by Nadal when his opponent slams into the net. The big man again struggles coming forward to the dropshot and scoops again into the net. A one-two punch with the serve out wide, then the reply out to the other and that’s the game.

  29. - - Nadal 1-6 3-3 – Del Potro clips the line, then Nadal hits millimetres wide for 15-0. It was the only shot open to him and Del P pulls off the backhand pass crosscourt. A superb hold to love and the clincher comes courtesy of another vicious backhand winner.

  30. - - Nadal 1-6 3-2 – Del Potro thinks the ball drops wide and leaves it, but he was wrong and it allows Nadal to stretch to a 30-0 lead. The Spaniard waits for the ball to drop, then smashes from the back of the court a winner that sweeps right into the corner.

  31. - - Nadal 1-6 2-2 – Del Potro comes into the net to drive a volley away from Nadal. The Spaniard’s shot of the match as he fires a winner up the line. The Argentine replies with a brutal crosscourt backhand after Nadal left the ball short. Important hold from Del Potro.

  32. - - Nadal 1-6 2-1 – …And the Spaniard holds, waiting for the errors off Del Potro’s racket.

  33. - - Nadal 1-6 1-1 – Nadal draws Del Potro in then passes the big man crosscourt. He really needs to do that more often. Del Potro misses when he goes for the winner down the line. What a pass from the Spaniard; on the stretch on his backhand and he whips it across the lunge of his opponent. It’s back to deuce though as the world number 11 with another of his bombs up the line. Break point, this time the power off his backhand telling, forcing Nadal long. First ace for Nadal, what a time to get it...

  34. - - Nadal 1-6 1-1 – BREAK! Del Potro isn’t known for his finesse, but that’s exactly what he uses there as the drop shot is too good for Nadal. Nadal picks up his first point of the set , followed by his second to get him back to 40-30. Del Potro’s lost something and Rafa’s gained something as he fights all the way back to deuce. The tide is turning as another error from Del Potro goes long. A pretty remarkable turnaround as Nadal breaks after being 0-40 down – it was another Del P mistake though.

  35. - - Nadal 1-6 0-1 – BREAK! Del Potro gets a lucky net cord which Rafa doesn’t deal with well enough. The Argentine is just too powerful; winners put him up 0-40 and Nadal on the back foot can only put this into the net.

  36. - - Nadal 1-6 –SET! …and Del Potro gets it when Rafa’s drop shot is poor and he smashes a backhand crosscourt winner.

  37. - - Nadal 1-5 –…Not the next though, a brutal winner. A stunning rally is won when Del Potro brings Rafa to the net. The Spaniard does well to lift the ball over Del Potro’s head, but he pulls out an unbelievable backhand smash. Not over though as the Argentine with the advantage misses the easiest of putaways. Another set point…but again, not taken. Rafa closes the net and Del Potro can’t pass. A really disappointing return from Rafa and yet another set point…

  38. - - Nadal 1-5 – Nadal races into a 0-30 lead as he starts to hit his ground strokes with a lot more bite. Del Potro goes after the corner on the stretch, but it’s inches long. Three break back points…a terrible forehand from Nadal with the ball sitting up for him nicely. Just huge; an inside-out forehand that clips the line. One more…but a drive off that traction engine of a forehand clips the baseline this time for his 15th winner. Everything set up for Del P, but this time his drive is long...

  39. - - Nadal 1-5 - BREAK!...error and it’s again break point…once more his forehand breaks down for Del Potro’s fifth game in a row!

  40. - - Nadal 1-5 - Huge forehand from Del Potro and again it’s a winner. An even bigger forehand, straight off the return and it’s 0-30. Winners at will here as the BIGGEST forehand so far is ripped perfectly down the line! Rafa replies with a dipping forehand of his own that touches the line. Nadal keeps a much better length and Del Potro now hits long. Only one break point left…and one more error yet again off the forehand and Nadal reaches the relative safety of deuce. Nadal with a similar...

  41. - - Nadal 1-4 –…how lucky was Del Potro there?? It looks like a double fault, but not given, then his next shot clips the net and falls over, leaving Nadal with no chance. Del Potro follows it up with a smash that lands in the stands and holds when Rafa stretches and loops a forehand out of play.

  42. - - Nadal 1-3 – Del Potro’s ground strokes are just too deep and heavy for Rafa to get in these points. Del Potro hits an ace out wide to level at 30-30, but he follows it with a forehand into the net for break point Rafa…a bad miss hit on the return and it’s deuce. Just far too short from Nadal and he’s getting punished. Nadal just stays in the next point and eventually draws the mistake. Again Rafa just keeps the ball back and Del Potro with another poor forehand and it’s another break point…

  43. - - Nadal 1-3 – BREAK! …Rafa saves one, but not the other as he hits long. That’s two breaks in a row for Del Potro now.

  44. - - Nadal 1-2 – The Argentina fans just won’t shut up and the Spaniards are whistling them. The umpire can’t do anything to calm them down. Even Del Potro is telling them to quieten down and finally they take to their chairs. Nadal goes 0-30 down as he plants a forehand long…Del Potro fires again and again into the same corner then switches play to crack one down the other side for a winner. Three break points…Nadal clips the line with a smash from all of 4 feet from the net!...

  45. - - NADAL 1-2 - Rafa eventually finds the gap and whips a forehand into the corner. Del Potro replies by coming into the net and powering a volley, wrong footing the Spaniard. The Argentine once again gets Nadal on the defensive and crashes a forehand up the line.

  46. - - NADAL 1-1 - BREAK! Del Potro will not be denied parity at the start of this opening set - he breaks back with relish after an extended deuce, and what a match this is already turning out to be! Nadal is furious with himself as he plants a drop shot into the net to squander his advantage, and Del Potro really earns that. We're back on terms!

  47. - - NADAL 1-0 - BREAK! Del Potro is immediately pegged back to 0-30, but he responds with two big serves. Nadal is utterly relentless, however, and he slams a forehand down the line for a winner, and breaks serve from deuce as Del Potro serves up a second double fault!
