  1. - - GAME, SET AND MATCH BERDYCH! 6-3 7-6 Tsonga throws in a double fault at 4-4 to hand Berdych a 5-4 lead with the mini-break. Tsonga rattles a forehand into the net from deep as the score reaches 6-4 after 90 minutes or so of play. An ace from Berdych finishes off the business at hand. He sees off Tsonga 6-3 7-6 (7-4) and is through to the last four where he will play Tommy Haas or Novak Djokvovic. A mentally astute performance by Berdych.

  2. - - 6-6 - We head for the breaker courtesy of another love game from Berdych and another ace to finish it off. Berdych with eight aces now compared to seven from Tsonga. Nothing much to split these men, but Tsonga can't afford to lose this breaker otherwise he is on a plane home before the weekend.

  3. - - TSONGA 6-5 - Tsonga ensures he will be guaranteed a place in the breaker in this second set. Berdych with 85 percent points won on first serve compared to 78 by his opponent. Tsonga will fancy his chances if he can force the third set as he continues to be the more aggressive performer out there.

  4. - - 5-5 - Anything you can do, I can do better. Berdych responds with his own love game. A shuddering forehand speeds beyond Tsonga before he can see it after a brutal first serve. Two games away from a breaker in this second set.

  5. - - TSONGA 5-4 - Tsonga is certainly in commanding form on serve. All of a sudden, the bouncing French player is coming to the boil nicely. But can he force the break that will force the third set? Some mightily impressive hitting by Tsonga it must be said. Still only the one break in the match. Chances at a premium.

  6. - - 4-4 - Around two or three thousand fans in a court that can hold 15,000. A lone French flag can be spotted among the Chinese patrons as Tsonga works his way back to 30-40 behind before a fabulous backhand return spins away from Berdych in carrying the score to deuce. Tsonga misses a backhand seconds later before a booming forehand keeps Tsonga at bay. Another defiant hold by the Czech.

  7. - - TSONGA 4-3 - Another fine hold for Tsonga, another game towards what he hopes will see him level up this match at one set all. Both men pretty consistent on first serve with Tsonga winning 79 perent of points on first serve, and Berdych coming up with 83 percent. Tsonga leads by the odd game in seven now.

  8. - - 3-3 - Tsonga giving himself a stern talking to after dropping in another unforced error on his way to losing that game to love. Little or no problems for Berdych on serve there. Both men have had chances to force the break in the second set, but we are no nearer to reaching that destination at the halfway point of the set.

  9. - - TSONGA 3-2 - Tsonga loses the first three points on serve before ripping back with the next five to complete a rousing hold. Berdych playing the price for some questionable shot selection especially at 30-40 on the Tsonga second serve. Opts to go down the line instead of cross court. Misses the shot, and misses the chance. Will have to start all over again.

  10. - - 2-2 - Sun is shining in Shanghai, and that was certainly a much more impressive game from the Czech player in levelling matters at 2-2 in this second set. Berdych now with six aces in this match compared to three from Tsonga, who could only pick up one point against the head there.

  11. - - TSONGA 2-1 - The Frenchman manages to put the disappointment of failing to convert any of those four break points behind him in coming up with a sturdy hold right on song, or right on Tsonga, to move ahead by the odd game in three. Tsonga certainly moving well out there. Has far from given up the ghost in this match.

  12. - - 1-1 - Berydch penalised for a lack of first serves as Tsonga brings up his first two break points of the match aided by a clubbing backhand. Goes for broke on the first break points as he wallops a forehand narrowly wide from deep. Berdych on second serve at 30-40, but another unforced error on the backhand side from Tsonga hits the tape as we reach deuce. Tsonga continues to knock on the door with his forehand drive helping out, but a solid ace by Berydch saves the day. Four break points saved.

  13. - - TSONGA 1-0 - Tsonga trying to steel himself as he stirs his senses with a vital hold at the outset of the second set. Can't really afford to drop serve again otherwise it could be goodnight Shanghai for the Frenchman with Berydch hitting some brutal shots with that serve. Tsonga holds to 30, but needs to get involved on his opponent's serve.

  14. - - SET BERDYCH 6-3 - A glimmer of hope for Tsonga as he manages to scramble his way 30-15 clear only for Berdych to convert a winning backhand volley at the net. A booming first serve hands Berdych a set point at 40-30 before a cross court forehand winner hands Berdych a comfortable enough first set. Big ask now for Tsonga to come back here. Tsonga with 15 unforced errors compared to only eight by his opponent in falling a set down.

  15. - - BREAK BERDYCH 5-3 - Tsonga suddenly bleeding unforced errors in that game as he loses the first three points on serve to hand Berydch three break points. The Czech man only needs one as Tsonga dumps a backhand into the net to drop serve for the first time today. A shocking service game with Tsonga losing the last eight points to fall 5-3 down. Berdych will serve for this first set.

  16. - - BERDYCH 4-3 - A fourth ace from the Czech player is good enough for a 4-3 lead. A love game from Berdych, a second of the match. Berdych must be loving his service game so far. In imperious form winning 92 percent of points every time that first serve hits the mark. That translates to 11 out of 12 points won on first serve. Can Berdych lay a glove on the Tsonga serve?

  17. - - 3-3 - Tsonga looking to get on the front foot with that forehand approach typifying his aggressive mindset. A couple of clunking forehand takes the game well away from his opponent. A fine hold by Tsonga to 15. 3-3 now in the first set of this match.

  18. - - Meanwhile, a delay in the match as Tsonga is requiring some help with something or other. He jogs off the court. Needing some treatment by the looks of things. Will keep you posted when he comes back...Tsonga back on the court now. Five minutes delay. But we are back with Tsonga serving.

  19. - - BERDYCH 3-2 - So the head-to-head record between these men is poised at 1-1 with Tsonga winning their last meeting at the O2 in London last year. Tsonga manages to push his opponent to deuce, but Berdych comes up with a couple of probing shots when required to deliver the goods as a couple of those booming forehands bail him out of a tight spot. Berdych with the 3-2 lead in this opening set.

  20. - - 2-2 - Tsonga plays a nice little drop shot at the net to establish a 30-0 lead before he booms a forehand wide of its intended target to lead 30-15. Another timely drop shot after a piercing rally of 19 shots followed by a first serve that Berdych empties into the net is good enough to carry the scores level at 2-2 in this opening set of the day. Fine moment of play by both men, but another strong hold from Tsonga.

  21. - - BERDYCH 2-1 - Plenty of space in this huge tennis dome if you are in the Shanghai area and fancy a spot of tennis-watching today. Berdych isn't hanging around as he comes up with a love game right on cue to move ahead by the odd game in three.

  22. - - 1-1 - Tsonga drops a couple of points in that game, but he does enough to bludgeon away a few winners in restoring parity at one game all. You would have to make Berdych a slight favourite to win this contest. The bookmakers agree with Berdych priced at 4/6 and Tsonga coming in at 11/8.

  23. - - BERDYCH 1-0 - Comfortable enough hold for the Czech player in the opening game of the day to get the business of these quarter-final matches off and running. Nice ace in that game to show the Berdych forearm is easing off nicely early on.

  24. 0-0 - 0-0 - Berdych to serve in the opening game of the match.

  25. 07:10 - Good morning and welcome to LIVE coverage of the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals.
