  1. - - AZARENKA 4-6 1-4 - A full stretch backhand passing shot winner across court from Sharapova off a viciously hit return of serve from Azarenka opens the game. Azarenka is hitting freely and for once it rattles Sharapova s she races up to the net only to put an easy ball into the net despite having an open court to aim for. Sharapova gets herself out of trouble at deuce a couple of times with aces but a dismissive swipe at a forehand goes for a winner from Azarenka and suddenly it's break point ...

  2. - - AZARENKA 4-6 1-4 - All or nothing from Azarenka as she thumps a couple of winners early in the first two points of the game. But Sharapova, in direct opposition to Azarenka, has barely moved better and earns herself a point for the triple break. But an unreturnable first serve and a first ace from Azarenka sees the Belarusian go on to hold and deny Sharapova a bagel set

  3. - - AZARENKA 4-6 0-4 - Two aces in the game as she cruises through a love service hold to consolidate the double break. She looks completely comfortable and relaxed and is potentially just two games away from tomorrow's final now

  4. - - AZARENKA 4-6 0-3 - BREAK! Signs of that exhaustion are also beginning to show in Azarenka's movement as she pulls up a couple of times while moving out to the forehand side, the latter time helping Sharapova earn herself another break point. And a double fault from the world number one is a disappointing way to concede the game. Sharapova totally in control now

  5. - - AZARENKA 4-6 0-2 - Sharapova keeps adding to her momentum with a solid enough hold to consolidate the break. Nothing spectacular from the Russian but with Azarenka having spent almost seven hours on court since Tuesday's opening day, solid is looking like it will be enough from Sharapova at this stage

  6. - - AZARENKA 4-6 0-1 - BREAK! Azarenka, who was on court until ridiculous o'clock last night, is looking pretty tired at the beginning of this first set as a double fault and then a forehand into the net hand Sharapova two break points. She only needs the one though, showcasing some immense defence before finding a forehand cross court winner off a shorter ball

  7. - - AZARENKA 4-6 - SET! Not a totally convincing service game from Sharapova, although she is helped by a couple of errors from Azarenka, as she squanders a first set point with an off-balance forehand well long. She earns herself a second chance by coming up to a shorter ball and firing it across court for a forehand winner. And this time she does wrap up the set with a forehand winner

  8. - - AZARENKA 4-5 - Credit to Azarenka as she gets her head down and works through another pretty straightforward service hold to force Sharapova to serve out this first set. So far so good for the Russian in terms of her serving percentage. But will the pressure on in the next game can she keep it up?

  9. - - AZARENKA 3-5 - No pressure on Sharapova at all as she serves for the hold 40-0 up. And yet she throws in her second double fault but nonetheless the Russian edges closer to taking this first set as, a couple of points later, she batters down a 117mph ace to seal the hold to 30

  10. - - AZARENKA 3-4 - Azarenka keeps it to the single break, holding to 15 when Sharapova fails to return a vicious serve down the centre of the court. Brutal hitting and running from both players already!

  11. - - AZARENKA 2-4 - Sharapova finds her first ace but just as she appears to be running Azarenka ragged, the Belarusian comes up with a spectacular running forehand passing shot. That said, the Russian does quickly put things right on the next point with another forehand drive volley, this time a winner, before going on to hold and this time consolidate the break

  12. - - AZARENKA 2-3 - BREAK! The Belarusian looks totally perplexed as she sends a regulation backhand into the top of the net. But it's frustration on her face by the end of the game as she makes consecutive backhand errors, the latter wide across court, to hand Sharapova the break advantage back

  13. - - AZARENKA 2-2 - BREAK! Azarenka breaks straight back to love as Sharapova fails to keep her momentum going. The Russian is suitably rattled by the final point that she dumps a tame backhand into the net after Azarenka had done brilliantly well on the previous point with a sliced backhand, sliced forehand and then backhand winner drilled down the line

  14. - - AZARENKA 1-2 - BREAK! The first chance goes begging for Sharapova as she sends an inside out cross court forehand wide as does another after Azarenka hands her a second chance with a double fault. But Sharapova does make the first move when she finally breaks on the third attempt, Azarenka hitting into the net

  15. - - AZARENKA 1-1 30-40 - Absolutely epic rally that leaves people standing in applause after Sharapova gets up to a great drop shot from Azarenka, only to pick the ball up off her bootlaces and dinking it back across court for a angled drop shot winner of her own. And she earns herself a break point just a couple of points later with a ferocious forehand drive volley winner ...

  16. - - AZARENKA 1-1 - Sharapova chucks in her first double of the day in her very first service game, not a great sign, but she holds firm and gets her name on the board with a hold from deuce

  17. - - AZARENKA 1-0 - Azarenka keeps Sharapova waiting for an age in between the end of the warm up and then start of the first game before racing through it with a love service hold to get the scoreboard ticking over

  18. - - Predictions? I reckon Azarenka to edge it in three. Anyone agree or disagree? I will be here for the duration of the match so why not get in touch on Twitter - @pippawdavis FOLLOW ON TWITTER!

  20. - - Okay, then here we go. The players are ready to get this clash underway and it will be Azarenka to serve first ...

  21. - - Both of these two have been struggling for form a bit this week, although Sharapova remains unbeaten (having seen off Sara Errani and Sam Stosur in straight sets and battled past Radwanska in three tough sets). Azarenka also survived a tight three setter against Angelique Kerber, and also beaten Li Na in straight sets. But the world number one fell victim (yet again) to Serena Williams

  22. - - So all those stats bode pretty well for Azarenka, who has already secured the end-of-year world number one ranking by getting this far. No matter what Maria does now, including potentially winning the tournament, she cannot overtake Azarenka

  23. - - The last time these two met in the Beijing final just a few weeks ago, Azarenka triumphed in two pretty easy straight sets 6-3 6-1. She also won the time before that, in the US Open semi-final, albeit having to come from a set down on that ocassion. In fact Azarenka leads the head-to-head record between these two 7-4. Sharapova has only won one of their five meetings this year, in Rome on the clay.

  24. - - Serena Williams is already through to tomorrow's final, having just dispatched Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 6-1 in 69 minutes. So who will she face? World number one Victoria Azarenka or world number two Maria Sharapova?

  25. - - Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage of the second of the semi-finals from the WTA Championships in Istanbul
