  1. 6-3 - MURRAY WINS! (Murray 6-1 6-2 6-3): Absolutely superb final game from Murray, his returning just immense - and fittingly he nails a backhand winner down the line that leaves Young flailing and falling short, as he has done all day. Great Britain lead 1-0!

  2. - - THREE MATCH POINTS FOR MURRAY!

  3. 5-3 - MURRAY NEARLY THERE (Murray 6-1 6-2 5-3): It's a far easier service game this time for Murray, as he finds some great first serves that Young can barely get back over. The American pulls out one great return winner, but it's his only poiint of the match.

  4. 4-3 - DONALD HOLDS HEAD UP HIGH (Murray 6-1 6-2 4-3): The American holds serve once more, this time with ease as he seems to have been pumped up by pushing so hard in that last game.

  5. 4-2 - MURRAY HOLDS! (Murray 6-1 6-2 4-2) An epic game of half a dozen deuces comes to an end at last, with what will surely be Donald's best chance to break going begging as Murray continually keeps half a step ahead. Young earned one more break point, but failed to convert as Murray went two games from victory.

  6. - - DEUCE! Young finally gets a chance as he pushes Murray to 30-40... but on break point the Scot saves with a magical dropshot followed up with a brilliant lob just inside the line. Unplayable stuff. Young saves the first game point with a return winner onto the line, and we're back to deuce.

  7. 3-2 - GOOD HOLD FOR YOUNG (Murray 6-1 6-2 3-2): Young looks set to win a rare game as he races to 40-15, but then Murray gives him the runaroun to get it to 40-30 before a disguised lob pushes it to deuce. Murray goes to advantage with a lucky net cord, but Young fights back to hold in the end with some decent rushing and volleying.

  8. 3-1 - EASY HOLD ONCE MORE (Murray 6-1 6-2 3-1) Murray's serving still more or less untouchable, and this match is only going one way now.

  9. 2-1 - BREAK! (Murray 6-1 6-2 2-1): Oh dear - Young gets blown away by Murray's returning once more, shot after shot coming back with too much power and spin, continually pushing the American wide or long.

  10. 1-1 - MURRAY STILL CRUISING (Murray 6-1 6-2 1-1): Another easy hold from Murray - Young simply can't get any sort of toe-hold on the Murray serve.

  11. 0-1 - NICE HOLD (Murray 6-1 6-2 0-1): Young holds serve beautifully with some excellent serves - in flashes he's looked good, but has shown no sort of consistency.

  12. 6-2 - SECOND SET TO MURRAY! (Murray 6-1 6-2) Murry holds serve with ease yet again, and this is turning into a mightily impressive victory procession.

  13. 5-2 - YOUNG'S BEST GAME (Murray 6-1 5-2): The American finally gets it together with some well-placed, punchy serves that Murray struggles to deal with it. Young holds to love.

  14. 5-1 - EASY HOLD AGAIN (Murray 6-1 5-1): No problems once more or Murray as he cruises towards this second set.

  15. 4-1 - ANOTHER BREAK! (Murray 6-1 4-1): Young going backwards at a rate of knots as Murray's devastating returning leaves him consistently on the back foot. The world number six looking in excellent touch today - and not a back twinge in sight so far.

  16. 3-1 - MURRAY HOLDS (Murray 6-1 3-1): The Scot is briefly pushed hard by Young in that game, but comes through in the end as Young blows a chance to take it to deuce.

  17. 2-1 - MURRAY BREAKS (Murray 6-1 2-1): Bad news for Young as Murray earns a break point, then once again simply bats the ball back over waiting for his opponent to crack. Young obliges by guiding a looping backhand wide - and Murray takes the advantage in this second set.

  18. 1-1 - MURRAY HOLDS (Murray 6-1 1-1): The Scot just far too good for Young in that game - the angles he is finding are leaving Young nothing to work with.

  19. 1-0 - YOUNG HOLDS SERVE (Murray 6-1 0-1): Great start to the set for the American as he looks in danger of losing his serve yet again after losing two quick points, but he fights back to win just his second game of the match.

  20. - - Murray had a slow start in that opening set - getting pushed to deuce on his serve - but since then he's been imperious.

  21. 6-1 - MURRAY CRUISES THROUGH FIRST SET! Yet another simple service game for Murray as he closes out the set - at one point Young looks set to take a point as he charges the net, but his volley is atrocious, long and wide. Current evidence suggests that this match won't go on long.

  22. 5-1 - YOUNG GETS ON THE SCOREBOARD: Three big serves put the American on the verge of his first game, and despite a couple of wobbles he manages to get off the mark in this match - that'll be a big confidence booster going into the second set.

  23. 5-0 - ANOTHER LOVE GAME: Murray rattles off four big serves, none of which Young can handle as the Scot picks up yet another easy game. The USA chose clay to unsettle Murray, but it's the American who looks most ill at ease on this surface so far.

  24. 4-0 - ANOTHER BREAK FOR MURRAY! An unplayable return at 15-30 dips over at an acute angle to set up another break point, and Young blasts a backhand long to continue his awful start.

  25. 3-0 - GAME MURRAY: The world number six wins his second service game to love, and is looking increasingly comfortable against a player who beat him in the Indian Wells Masters back in 2011.

  26. 2-0 - BREAK TO MURRAY! A massive backhand winner earns Murray a break point in Young's first service game, and after a long rally the American puts a feeble forehand into the net. First blood to Britain.

  27. 1-0 - 1-0 MURRAY: Very tentative start from both players as they take it easy on this slippery clay. Murray uncharacteristically gingerly in his movement - and he gets taken to deuce before holding serve.

  28. 0-0 - Here wo go! Murray to serve first against Young, the world number 79, who was a late replacement for the injured John Isner.

  29. 19:16 - The match is in San Diego, on a very slippery drop-in court at the Petco Park baseball stadium. Match about to get under way!

  30. 19:15 - Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Britain's Davis Cup tie against the USA.
