  1. 11:50 - WATSON 6-3 6-4 ZAHLAVOVA. MATCH! Tense moments for Watson as she falls down 15-30, but she recovers to find herself up match point. Two match points come and go, but on the third she dispatches a forehand straight down the line to capture a fantastic win.

  2. 11:41 - WATSON 6-3 5-4 ZAHLAVOVA. A rare love hold for Zahlavova Strycova, who slips a crosscourt backhand after a series of strong serves to seal another hold and leave it to Watson to swim or sink. The Brit will attempt to serve it out after the break.

  3. 11:39 - WATSON 6-3 5-3 ZAHLAVOVA. No faltering from Watson this time around, as she punches down a service winner to put herself within a game of victory. Zahlavova Strycova’s coach continues to cackle in the stands, but he has little reason to.

  4. 11:34 - WATSON 6-3 4-3 ZAHLAVOVA. BREAK! A fall for Zahlavova in the first point proves foreboding as a series of errors, and a brief verbal battle with the umpire, ends with her relinquishing the game and putting the Brit firmly back in the driving seat.

  5. 11:30 - WATSON 6-3 3-3 ZAHLAVOVA. The rut stops at three as Watson bites back to level it all. A poor dropshot from Zahlavova on break point was all Watson needed to pounce and seal the game off.

  6. 11:26 - WATSON 6-3 2-3 ZAHLAVOVA. Heather Watson finds herself up break point but can’t capitalize as the Zahlavova revival continues. Three games in a row for the Czech now, and she looks hungry for more.

  7. 11:19 - WATSON 6-3 2-2 ZAHLAVOVA. BREAK! Zahlavova Strycova runs with the momentum of her first hold and storms back to level the set as her coach chuckles on from the crowd. Some inconsistent play from Watson, including a poorly mistimed backhand to give away the break, prove her downfall.

  8. 11:14 - WATSON 6-3 2-1 ZAHLAVOVA. Some solid serves followed by a strong forehand winner seals the Czech’s first offering of the second set. Watson is still far from out of the woods here.

  9. 11:10 - WATSON 6-3 2-0 ZAHLAVOVA. The Czech’s screams do little to help her tennis as she dumps a smash in the lowly pits of the net to double the Brit’s second set lead.

  10. 11:05 - WATSON 6-3 1-0 ZAHLAVOVA. BREAK! No let-up from Watson at the beginning of set two. She moves the ball from corner to corner with her backhand and elicits the error that seals yet another break to open the set.

  11. 10:59 - WATSON 6-3 ZAHLAVOVA. SET! So far, so good for Watson. More potent forehands from the qualifier and a backhand error from Zahlavova on set point routinely seal a convincing first set for the Brit.

  12. 10:56 - WATSON 5-3 ZAHLAVOVA. Some sharp and pretty play from the moody Czech, who dispatches a backhand down-the-line before following it up by sprinting into the net and putting away the volley to seal another hold of serve. Watson to serve for the set.

  13. 10:50 - WATSON 5-2 ZAHLAVOVA. Clearly Watson took issue with the description of this match as scrappy. She promptly reels of three winners in succession before a service winner seals the game and grants her an easy hold to love. Real daylight now stands between the pair.

  14. 10:48 - WATSON 4-2 ZAHLAVOVA. BREAK! After Watson’s searing start, the match has become a little scrappier. But the results are no different as Watson breaks once more thanks to a few errors followed by a double fault on break point.

  15. 10:40 - WATSON 3-2 ZAHLAVOVA. BREAK! The ever-resourceful Zahlavova tries to rush the net but finds the strong passing shot too hot to handle. However, she’s finally making her way into a Watson service game. A break point comes her way which is scuppered by a comically botched volley. After much deuce deliberating and a fall from Zahlavova, a long forehand from Watson removes the break lead.

  16. 10:29 - WATSON 3-1 ZAHLAVOVA. Zahlalova finally finds her way onto the scoreboard with a strong game littered with free service winners.

  17. 10:26 - WATSON 3-0 ZAHLAVOVA. Whoops! Watson catches air as she tries to hit a smash, but chases the ball as it flies over her head and is spared her blushes as Zahlalova sprays the following sitter wide. Watson erupts in laughter, and she has every reason to as she captures the game a few points later.

  18. 10:21 - WATSON 2-0 ZAHLAVOVA. BREAK! Two break points come Watson’s way with more formidable hitting, which seem to spark the Czech into life as she quickly saves both. However, never overawed, Watson punches back immediately and forces an error with her forehand to seal the opening break. A triumphant pump of the fist, and she’s flying.

  19. 10:16 - WATSON 1-0 ZAHLAVOVA STRYCOVA. A strong start for Watson, who peels away a few forehand winners and struts across the net with the first game in her pocket.

  20. 10:13 - Young Heather is still on the comeback trail after a debilitating bout of mono last year, and after capturing the huge Prague Challenger title and qualifying here, she arrives in the first round firmly back into the top 100 and on an 8 match winning streak.
