Anaemic, malnourished sloth rescued in Peru

STORY: At the time of the rescue, the young female sloth had a body temperature of 21 degrees Celsius (69,8 degrees Fahrenheit) and was placed in an incubator to simulate the warm, humid climate of the jungle to stabilise her health.

According to veterinaries from the Peruvian National Forest and Wildlife Service, the animal was poorly fed and had signs of mistreatment.

The manager of Peru's National Forest and Wildlife Service, Luis Felipe Gonsalez, said on Monday (May 15) the sloth is recovering and is stable but will remain under observation.

The animal will remain for 15 to 30 days receiving treatment and rehabilitation to be released into the jungle next month.
