Anti-Fascist Protest Stops Traffic in Barcelona

An anti-fascist demonstration caused traffic disturbances in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday, May 23.

Footage recorded by photojournalist David Melero Pena shows protesters marching near Placa Universitat in the center of the Catalan city.

The protest was arranged by groups from two occupied buildings, La Ruina and El Kubo, and also included elements calling for improved housing rights, according to local media.

Local media reported that it was attended by around 400 people.

Protesters vandalized at least two banks, local media reported. The footage shows members of the protest spray-painting graffiti onto buildings and public transport vehicles.

The Guardia Urbana Barcelona tweeted at around 9 pm local time on Tuesday night that the demonstration had finished. They did not report any arrests. Credit: David Melero Pena via Storyful
