California leaders prepare for flood of migrants with shift in national immigration rules

As the federal government lifts Title 42 , California leaders are keeping a close eye on the situation at the southern border, and how an influx of people may impact the health and safety of migrant communities and California citizens. While the federal government is responsible for immigration policy and processing, state leaders said Thursday they're working closely with local leaders near the border to mitigate issues including overcrowded hospitals and strained emergency services. "There's really a lot of work underway to be prepared for record numbers of people crossing, and for that to happen in an orderly and humane way," said Brian Ferguson, a spokesman for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, also known as Cal OES.
