Cyclone Mocha Brushes World's Largest Refugee Camp in Bangladesh

Cyclone Mocha was “milder than expected” but damaged some structures in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh, on Sunday, May 14, according to a UN migration chief.

Footage by Maung Hla Myint Arfat shows strong winds as refugees prepared to secure their shelters.

The storm was originally expected to hit Cox’s Bazar head-on, but changed course early on Sunday. Authorities said over one million were evacuated preemptively, according to reports.

The cyclone slammed into neighboring Myanmar in the afternoon, killing at least three people. No casualties were reported in Bangladesh’s refugee areas. Credit: Maung Hla Myint Arfat via Storyful
