Drifting Smoke From Canadian Wildfires Prompts Air-Quality Alerts in US

Wildfire smoke from western Canada was expected to impact air quality in parts of the midwestern United States on Wednesday, May 17, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned.

Timelapse satellite imagery posted by the NWS shows smoke drift into the Ohio Valley on Wednesday morning.

By Wednesday morning, the number of active wildfires in Alberta grew to 91, according to official fire information, while 61 burned in British Columbia, and 27 in Saskatchewan. Credit: NWS Little Rock via Storyful
