Fans at Yankee Stadium Watch Game in Haze of Smoke

The Yankees and White Sox played on even as smoke from Canada’s wildfires made for hazy conditions at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, June 6.

Smoke began reaching the New York City metropolitan area on Tuesday afternoon, leading to alerts and health warnings.

Air quality “plummeted across much of the northeast”, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. “Poor air quality can be hazardous to anyone, and it can aggravate health problems such as asthma, heart disease, and lung disease,” the agency warned.

New York Gov Kathy Hochul issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for large swathes of New York state, and the New York City Mayor’s Office advised people with heart or breathing issues to limit outdoor activities “to the absolute necessities.”

The White Sox won the game 3-2.
