First responders ramp up river patrols for Memorial Day weekend

First responders are ready to respond to people going to the Sacramento and American Rivers for the holiday weekend. "They're going to be right on the water, so if an emergency does happen, we can get right to it," said Sacramento Fire Department Capt. Justin Sylvia. "There's no lag time from coming from one of our fire stations." Sacramento firefighters trained for swift water rescues are patrolling the rivers by boat, one of over a dozen boats and vessels from eight area law enforcement and fire departments ready to help at a moment's notice. Sylvia said the water is running unusually fast.
