'Is He Getting in the Ocean?' Bear Goes for a Dip in Massachusetts Bay

A black bear was seen getting ready for the summer season in Massachusetts, diving off a dock in Buzzards Bay for a swim on May 25.

Kenleigh Muller, who recorded this video in the town of Marion, told Storyful she “was sitting on the dock when the bear walked by me.”

“Is he getting in the ocean?” Muller questions at the start of the video, before the black bear is seen gracefully paddling through the water.

“The bear paid no mind to me and swam to the other side of the harbor,” Muller said.

According to the North American Bear Center, black bears have a good swimming ability and can “swim at least a mile and a half in fresh water.” Credit: Kenleigh Muller via Storyful
