Monkeypox has a new name and new data for protection

The World Health Organization on May 11 said mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, no longer presents a public health emergency of international concern because global cases have declined and countries are better equipped to respond, but that doesn’t mean the threat is eliminated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on May 19 warned of a “substantial” risk of renewed mpox outbreaks in the United States and has issued alerts warning health providers to be vigilant.
