Police Launch Hate Crime Probe After Pride Flags Ripped and Burned in Omaha

Police in Nebraska said they were investigating a possible hate crime after two pro-LGBTQ flags on a homeowner’s porch in Omaha, Nebraska, were torn down and burned on separate dates in April and June.

This home-security footage released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on June 7 first shows a person ripping a rainbow Pride flag off its pole on April 15, and then shows an LGBTQ progress flag being set on fire on June 2.

Police said the incidents happened near 148th Street and Laurel Avenue in Omaha’s Saddlebrook neighborhood. The suspect was believed to be male, was wearing a light-colored jacket and light-colored pants, and “may have burns on his hands as a result of the fire,” police said.
