Portland Homeowner Rescues Raccoon Kits Trapped Inside Her Walls

A woman in Portland, Oregon, had holes cut along the outside of her home in order to help reunite a mama raccoon with her babies.

Wendy Gatlin, who recorded video of the rescue on June 1, told Storyful that she had heard a raccoon scratching along the inside of her walls for weeks. After closing up the area in which the animal was entering however, she realized she had separated a mama raccoon from her kits.

“I called [animal control] and they said they would have to euthanize the babies and mama if they came out,” Gatlin said, which is why she called on a friend to help instead.

In the video, Gatlin’s friend cuts a couple holes along the outside of the home, so that the mama raccoon, nicknamed Rocky, could retrieve her babies.

“All three pups rescued. A few holes knocked out in the walls, but little Rocky has her babies,” Gatlin said at the end of her video. Credit: Wendy Gatlin via Storyful
