Powerful Display as Water Gushes From Northern California Reservoir

Water was seen gushing down a spillway at a flow-rate of 9000 cfs at Lake Oroville, California, as part of a planned release on Saturday, May 27.

Video recorded by photo journalist Craig Philpott shows water flowing down the spillway into the Feather River system. The California Department of Water Resources (CDWR) said the dam was at 96 percent capacity and the releases were planned to ensure continued storage space in Lake Oroville, for spring runoff from snowmelt.

The CDWR said the reservoir is expected to hit full capacity in June. Credit: Craig Philpott via Storyful
