Tennessee Man Discovers Rat Snake Dangling Above Porch Door

A Tennessee man’s cats were less than thrilled recently when they came across a rat snake dangling right above their door.

Video posted to Instagram by Jonathon Bumpus shows the snake emerging from the wooden structure above the door of their porch and Bumpus’s cats with wide-eyed expressions as they peer up at the animal.

Bumpus told Storyful that he works as a “naturalist by trade” and was finishing up working outside with some cattle when his wife told him a snake was on the porch.

“I did not expect an over-4-foot rat snake dangling right outside the door,” he said.

“Rat snakes are very common in the rural areas around Nashville, where we live," he said. Bumpus added that the animals act as “great pest control” and “eat a lot of mice and rats, hence the name.”
