In Ukraine’s Avdiivka, divided loyalties as Russia continues assault

For several months now, Russian forces have been concentrating their offensive on eastern Ukraine in the hope of capturing the Donetsk region. On the outskirts of the occupied capital, Avdiivka is one of the most dangerous places on this front line. The town is a besieged fortress, but Avdiivka has resisted Russian assaults for almost a year, with supplies available through only one access road. For several weeks now, Russian aircraft and missiles have been ravaging what remains of the town. Our reporters Catherine Norris Trent, Johan Bodin and Dymitro Kovalchuk managed to get into the town.
