Watch: Bear tries to cross South Yuba River in Nevada County

A black bear was seen being swept downstream in the South Yuba River over the weekend in Nevada County. Mike Stewart, the fire chief in Washington, California, shared video Saturday that shows the speed of the water in the river. He said the adult black bear tried to cross the river in the town of Washington. The bear is a much better swimmer than a human would be and it’s unlikely that a human would have survived, he said.
