Sabres’ OT goal comes via puck’s ride in Mike Smith’s pants (Video)
It's no secret things haven't been breaking the Buffalo Sabres' way this season, so when some good fortune does come their way, they'll take it however they can.
Such was the case Monday night as the Sabres beat the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 in overtime. The winning goal was scored by rookie Mark Pysyk; but full credit should go to Mike Smith after the puck fell into his pants and he carried it across the goal line:

At 3:47 of overtime in the Coyotes/Sabres game, video review supported the referee's call on the ice that Mark Pysyk's shot deflected into the air and landed in goaltender Mike Smith's equipment and, while attempting to make the save, Smith's momentum propelled him and the puck completely across the goal line. Good goal Buffalo.
That determination would seem to erase any thought of Rule 85.3 - Puck Out of Sight coming into play.
Hard to blame Smith for that freaky goal. It's natural instinct for him to immediately retreat to his crease/inside the net in case the puck is loose right in front. Tough way to lose a point, but certainly comes in unique fashion.
There was the New York Jets' Butt Fumble. This was the Butt Goal.
Here was Smith's reaction after the game, via Joe Yerdon of NHL.com and Pro Hockey Talk: "It's an honest game and if you don't play how you're supposed to play ... you get it jammed [in an uncomfortable place]."
