Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins' Jason Fox has said he never knew if he could trust Matt Hancock when he did the show.
The former health secretary was one of the contestants on the 2023 series of the Channel 4 programme, which sees celebs going through gruelling military training exercises. He later said it was one of the toughest things he’s done.
However, giving his verdict during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning, Fox suggested Hancock wasn’t the most impressive recruit.
What, how and why?
Host Ben Shephard asked the TV star – one of the staff who takes celebs through the punishing training – where Hancock rated in his favourite contestants, and he replied: “Um, I mean, he turned up… He put a shift in.”
“He would put 110% in but he never let his barrier down,” he explained of their time in the Vietnamese jungle. “We didn’t know whether we could trust him.”
“He didn’t do enough to show us that he was willing to put it all on the line for other people around him,” added Fox.
Fox also said of doing the show: “You have got to allow yourself to be vulnerable. There is a lot of strength that comes from that and if you are not willing to go there then we can tell that they are not being honest with us, and it’s like, well, you know, you are not really buying into it, you are just playing the game and that’s not good enough.”

He was also asked about his favourite ever contestant and revealed it was former Pop Idol star Gareth Gates, who won Hancock’s series.
“The person that has basically surprised us and did unbelievably, probably the best one we’ve had, he’s pipped Wayne Bridge to the post now, was Gareth Gates," he said.
“Massively surprised us. He was a machine.”
What else did Jason Fox say?
Shephard and co-host Cat Deeley also quizzed Fox about whether he’d do another reality show, like Strictly. But he joked: “There is no dancer in here. I’m allergic to sequins!”
However, he suggested he might be interested in challenging himself on Bake Off or MasterChef.
“I’m scared of cooking,” he said. “I am useless at cooking. I would probably do something along those lines.”
