Doctor Who fans question why Ruby has only just visited an alien planet
"Yeah, they definitely rejigged the episode order."
What did you miss?
Doctor Who viewers latched onto a significant detail in the latest episode of series 14, 'Boom', which seemingly made little sense.
Written by Steven Moffatt, who held the Who showrunner job until Chris Chibnall took over in 2017, the action saw Ncuti Gatwa's Time Lord and Millie Gibson's companion Ruby Sunday in the middle of a warzone on the planet Kastarion 3.
Despite the sticky situation of The Doctor being paralysed by a landmine, Ruby was suddenly dazzled by the alien horizon infront of her. It was then revealed that Kastarion 3 was in fact the very first extraterrestrial rock she'd visited, even though Ruby had been travelling in the TARDIS for six months.
The prevailing question on social media was: where had The Doctor been taking her all this time?
What, how and why?
Searching the rocky terrain for anything that could ease The Doctor's predicament, Ruby stopped in her tracks as the surrounding planets vividly filled the sky.
"What's wrong? Ruby, have you seen something?" asked her friend while trying not to activate the explosive. "Oh... Ruby I'm sorry I forgot. Your first time on a new planet. It flips the sonic [screwdriver] doesn't it? A brand-new sky.
"We're on Kastarion 3 going by the rings next door. Decent enough, 7/10. Good trees, great mountains, rainbow crystal. Ohhh wait until you see the dawn," teased The Doctor, chuckling.
What were social media users saying?
Following this revelation, Doctor Who fans writing on social platform X questioned why it had taken The Doctor a whopping six months to introduce Ruby to the greater universe.
"Something that struck me as odd in last night's #DoctorWho episode... So Ruby has been travelling with the Doctor for 6 months according to the Devil's Chord... But the "Boom" episode was her first alien planet?! IN ALL THAT TIME?!" read one response.
Another individual pointed out: "Does anybody else find it kind of odd that Ruby and the doctor have been traveling for 6 months together and she's just now visiting her first alien planet?"
trying to figure out how in The Devil’s Chord The Doctor and Ruby have been together for sixth months but Boom is the first time she’s been on an alien planet. where’s he been taking her all this time? UK seaside holidays? #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/NYoedat3wa

Since this was Ruby's first alien planet, The Doctor and Ruby have clearly spent the last 6+ months doing pure Classic Who style historicals. #DoctorWho

Last episode it seemed like the Doctor and Ruby had been together for months, yet apparently this is her first alien planet?
I can't object. The Doctor's been taking her off to history, which is, of course, the best use of a TARDIS. #DoctorWho— MuchWhittering (@MuchWhittering) May 17, 2024
Amazing #DoctorWho episode! Edge of your seat stuff and moments I actually gasped out loud to.
Tiniest nit pick, Ruby has been travelling with the Doctor for 6 months and she has only now visited her first alien planet?— Daniel 🤟 (@Ldn_212) May 17, 2024
So, this is Ruby’s first time on an alien planet, but last episode she’d been travelling with the Doctor for 6 months? Yeah, they definitely rejigged the episode order for the season. #doctorwho

Wait what if half a year passed between Space Babies and The Devil’s Chord then how is this Ruby’s first time on an alien planet? #DoctorWho #DrWho pic.twitter.com/W4ffFx92Wg
