PREMIER LEAGUE: Tottenham agree to sell Soldado to Villarreal
Striker who cost Spurs £26m two years and who scored just seven Premier League goals set to return to Spain
Tottenham have agreed a deal to sell Roberto Soldado to Villarreal.
The 30-year-old joined Spurs for £26m in 2013 from Valencia but failed to impress in the Premier League.
He scored 16 goals from 76 matches in all competitions while at White Hart Lane, but just seven from 51 Premier League appearances.
The move is expected to cost the Spanish club £12m and Soldado has signed a three-year deal.
Soldado, who started his career at Real Madrid, was one of the best strikers in La Liga with Getafe then Valencia, for whom he scored 81 times in 141 appearances.
With Villarreal Soldado will play in the Europa League - like Spurs - and will also attempt to repair his reputation.
Tottenham are now expected to step up their bid for West Brom striker Saido Berahino who is expected to attract a fee of around £15m.
They are also reportedly close to signing Lyon forward Clinton N'Jie.
